The original piece of steel arrived at the studio for a metal grinding shot for a film house.(for those of a certain age a ‘film house’ made the colour separations for the plates to go on a conventional press.) Once you have a hundred pound plus, [46kg+] piece of metal it tends to be repurposed from time to time. The worked steel plate with scratch awl, acid, pencil and water. 
I continue to investigate with smaller pieces of 'salted' copper and brass, sometimes making mixed media prints.
